I am on a roll today, and I just HAVE to share this picture. We have been working on self-feeding a lot lately, mostly because Laura Grace is very independent and anxious to learn. However, it seems that Ms Sara is the only one, patient enough to "let loose!" Isn't she precious?

WHOA! You are brave, girl! Chloe's doing great at self-feeding now but I wouldn't let her near raspberry applesauce without me holding the container VERY tightly. I limit her to only semi-messy foods like mashed potatoes, yogurt, and thick oatmeal. Looks like Laura Grace is having a ball! I'm guessing she got a bath after this shot?

Hey Sara--What a beautiful girl! What fun you must have! (Well, what fun she's obviously having in this picture!) I was thrilled to see you found my blog. (I don't think mine's an official blog--it's like a blig--or a blug. The problem is that I can't figure out how to post pictures. Well, I don't have the patience to read about how to do it--not yet anyway.) Can you email me your real address? I would love to have it so I can keep in touch--and send you a real Christmas card. I think of you so very often. I was telling Karen that I have that picture of you, her, and me when I was dressed up as Synonym Woman--do you remember that? It's on my desk in my office where I can see you both every day. I miss you--and Josh, too. :-) Please tell him hi for me, okay?

Funny, Alicia! I do usually limit her to less messy foods, but she is SO very independent that she literally refuses to eat foods she can't feed herself, so this is the only way to broaden her diet! Gotta do what ya gotta do! And YES, she definitely had a bath, following this lunch!

Hey Sara,

To answer your question from my blog - NO we have not mastered a technique for stopping Chloe's demanding whininess. We're working on it though. I am convinced that part of the problem is that she's been with just me for most of the last 4 months and I give in to her often without thinking about it. If she wants something that's not dangerous (and if she asks nicely and by signing please of course) I give it to her. Lately though, she's been pushing those limits. She's gotten whiny, cried and thrown mini-fits when she gets taken away from something (you should have seen her when elmo's world ended and the tv turned off this week!). When she chose to do her sad little crying face, my heart turned cold as steel on her and she got her time-out. We put her in the time-out place, leave her alone (so she can't see us) and then let her stop crying on her own. It's working pretty well and Matt is working on building something to make the time-out area more secluded (i.e. so she CAN'T climb up the steps). What's amazing to me is that she had one really bad day on Wednesday, yesterday wasn't as bad and today she's great! She hasn't had a single episode today! I'm sure we're not out of the woods yet, but it's encouraging to see such rapid progress.

Sorry for the monster comment. :)

Way to take the plunge into self-feeding :) I think every mom dreads doing it-- but you can't be feeding your 7 year old her applesauce :)
